Top page ranking on search engines is important to everyone. The higher you are, the more customers come to your website, and in return generate sales. So let's look at the top things that impact your search engine ranking. To help understand how important they are I will use a points system. 1 Point = very little impact on ranking, 10 Points = huge impact on ranking.
1. Incoming Links: This is a link on another website that points to your website. Here are the tips when getting a link from another site.
- Generic Link on Generic website: www.edirecthost.com (-1 Point)
- Generic Link on website similar to yours, in same industry: www.edirecthost.com (1 Points)
- Generic Link on Authoritative Website in your industry. Example: if your site is a limo service website and you belong to the National Association of Limo Providers then a link on their site to you would be very good (4 Points)
- General Link on regular Authoritative Website like Chamber or BBB (3 Points)
- Keyword Link on Generic website is very bad (-3 Points)
2. Blog Reviews: This would be someone on another website writing a blog about your website products or services provided.
- Blog on Generic Website with no links: (0 Points)
- Blog on Generic Website with generic link: (-1 Point)
- Blog on Generic Website with keyword link: (-1 Point)
- Blog on Authoritative Industry Website with generic link: (3 Points)
3. Business Listings: This would be a listing on a website that provides the end user with you business products, services, location, hours, reviews and so on. Here is a list of site you HAVE to be listed on.
4. Social Networking: Yes it's time to create a facebook and twitter account. Use these social networks to promote your business to your friends and family. Once they start to promote your business as well then that's when it starts to help.
- Facebook Account with a link to your website: (3 Points)
- Facebook Account with comments about your site which are then shared by other facebook accounts: (5 Points)
- Twitter Account with link and comments: (3 Points)
5. Reviews: Using what you created in #3, you now need to promote these links to your customers for good reviews.
- 5 to 10 reviews on Google Places (5 Points) and (8 Points) for local searches.
